Earlier this week it was announced across Kings Island’s social media channels that the park’s executive chef, James Major, has accepted the role of regional chef, food and beverage for Cedar Fair Entertainment Co.

What does Chef James' promotion mean for Kings Island, Cedar Fair and park guests?

In his new role, Chef James will have oversight of six Cedar Fair parks: Kings Island, Cedar Point, Dorney Park, Kings Dominion, Michigan’s Adventure and Valleyfair. He'll bring a wealth of industry and leadership experience to his new role that will allow him to work with each of the parks to make sure they keep growing and improving to be on the cutting edge in the industry and deliver a dining experience that's as memorable for guests as the rides and attractions.

Chef James has played an instrumental role in helping elevate the food quality and variety along with the overall dining experience for guests during his tenure as the executive chef at Kings Island.

“What I’m most proud about during my almost five years (at Kings Island) is the team that was built, not only on the culinary team, but overall in the culture of the food and beverage department and the ability to look and think outside the box,” Chef James said. “That’s one of the most important things during my time here."

Of all the new menu items that have been introduced and projects that he has worked on at Kings Island, Chef James has a few favorites.

“One of my most cherished menu items is the fresh burger that we’re serving at Juke Box Diner and at the Miami River Brewhouse. It’s a project I worked on when I first arrived. Coney Bar B Que and Chef’s Plate are some of the other things I’m really proud of. It’s all about the team, the people, the culture of the Food and Beverage department at Kings Island that’s made it a great.”

Prior to joining Cedar Fair in 2018, he served in the United States Navy, finishing with the rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class. Upon his departure from the Navy, James held several key roles with Delaware North where he worked with major sports teams including the Cleveland Indians, Cincinnati Reds, St Louis Cardinals, and the Carolina Panthers.

Chef James also participated in several major events such as Superbowl XLVIII and several World Series and All-Star Games. He is a two-time "Chopped" Champion on the Food Network and represented the Navy in the Food Network program Cut Throat Kitchen.
