April 29 is a big day in Kings Island history. On this day in 1972, the park opened its gates to the public for the first time. Although roller coasters like the Racer are still speeding up and down the tracks and the Grand Carousel still spins as it did 44 years ago, the park has gone through many changes.

Grand Carousel at Kings Island turns 90

The oldest ride at Kings Island has been traveling in circles for 90 years. Generations of amusement park visitors, from toddlers to great-grandparents, have ridden Kings Island’s magnificent Grand Carousel since it was originally purchased by Cincinnati’s Coney Island in 1926 from the Philadelphia Toboggan Company.
