Ohio woman is Orion's one millionth rider
A Columbus, OH woman scored the one millionth ride today on the Orion giga coaster.
The rider, Mary Hendricks, received a Orion-themed gift bag which included a Made to Thrill poster, nanocoaster, Tervis mug, hat and magnet, a large sign celebrating the milestone ride, and Fast Lane Plus passes. It was her first ride on the tallest and fastest roller coaster at Kings Island.
Orion debuted last summer, becoming only the seventh giga coaster in the world (a class of roller coasters featuring a 300-399 foot height or drop), and claimed the title of “Best New Amusement Park Attraction” in the 2020 USA TODAY 10Best.com Readers’ Choice Travel Awards poll.
Riders on Orion plummet down an exhilarating 300-foot first drop at a 85-degree angle, sending them on a high-speed journey over seven more hills and 5,321 feet of track at speeds up to 91 mph.
Orion was exclusively designed for Kings Island by Switzerland-based Bolliger & Mabillard, which also designed the park’s Banshee and Diamondback roller coasters.
