BREAKING: Kings Island confirms meteors sighted overnight

This morning at approximately 2:24 a.m., Kings Island workers reported multiple streaks of light in the sky over the north edge of the amusement park’s property. A quick analysis of the footage from the Eiffel Tower later confirmed the flashes of light were meteors moving southwest at approximately 51,000 mph. One of the meteors appears to have broken apart shortly before striking the ground.
More than 70 sightings of the incident have been reported by the International Meteor Society (IMS) early Thursday, with at least a half dozen reports coming from nearby residents in Kings Mills, Maineville, Mason and Landen.
“It was so fast, and the tails were so long,” said Anita Efday from Landen, who was taking her dog on a late night walk. “I thought Kings Island might be testing fireworks but I realized it was way too late for that."
The rare occurrence was captured by a camera on top of the Eiffel Tower.
The footage revealed that light from the meteors briefly lit the new Area 72 themed area of the park, home of Kings Island’s Orion giga coaster, Flight of Fear and the rumored Project X research facility.
