Kings Island’s Beast has spoken: The world’s longest wooden roller coaster could not find its shadow this morning along 7,359 feet of track which means that we’re in for an early spring according to Rivertown folklore. Had The Beast seen its shadow, it would have meant six more weeks of winter.

Every February 2, roller coaster aficionados all across southwest Ohio wait for The Beast to let us know whether there will be an early spring or six more weeks of winter.

Since 2008, The Beast has seen its shadow four times and not seen it nine times, including each of the past five years.

Year-by-Year Beast Day predictions:

  • 2020 – Early Spring
  • 2019 – Early Spring
  • 2018 – Early Spring
  • 2017 – Early Spring
  • 2016 – Early Spring
  • 2015 – Longer Winter
  • 2014 – Longer Winter

  • 2012 – Longer Winter
