A Valentine's Day story from Kings Island
February 14, 2020Flips. Turns. Twists.
Ask anyone, and they’ll tell you that a visit to Kings Island is full of heartbeat raising moments and memories that last a lifetime.
You know the feeling. The anxious excitement that comes at the top of every roller coaster’s lift hill, followed by the exhilaration as it reaches its top speed.
For Caleb Kempf and Melissa Phillips, those feelings were especially true. In 2013, they both began their journey at Kings Island as seasonal associates. Their new roles in the admissions department meant they would be among the first associates park guests would encounter during their visit. The department is full of some of the brightest and friendliest associates the park has to offer. And, if you met these two, you’d agree they fit the bill.
As most of these stories go, Caleb says, “we knew of each other, but it would be three seasons before the larger group we hung out in became smaller. Then one day it was just the two of us.’ After dating for nearly three years, one night last June the couple decided to spend the rest of their life together. Today they are planning a Cincinnati wedding for this December.
You never know when you’re going to meet that one person who flips your world upside down. Not every seasonal job at Kings Island ends in a love connection. But this Valentine’s Day, it’s nice to see that seasonal employment can be more than that. And, if you’re interested, Kings Island is holding an open job fair on Saturday, Feb. 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to fill positions in all areas of park operation for the 2020 season. Apply online in advance or text FUN to 97211. On-property housing available for out-of-area associates.
As for Caleb and Melissa- congratulations. As you sit side by side in this roller coaster we call life, always remember to scream at the top of the lift hill. Laugh through the twists and turns. Hold hands through the valleys. But most of all, savor every moment because you’re sharing it together.
