Construction crews Wednesday installed Lift Element No. 11 to complete construction of the lift hill on Kings Island’s new Orion roller coaster set to debut next year in the spring.

The total weight of the lift hill and 300-foot long first drop is 1,166,000 pounds with the total length of the lift hill and first drop 792 feet.

Most of the track still needs to be put in place.

When completed, Orion will be one of only seven giga coasters in the world, a class of roller coasters having a height or drop of 300-399 feet.

Riders on Orion will plummet down an exhilarating 300-foot drop before sending them on a high-speed journey over seven more hills at speeds up to 91 mph on the tallest and fastest roller coaster at Kings Island, and the longest steel roller coaster at 5,321 feet..

Here’s a video of what Orion will look like for those who cannot wait until spring to ride.

Rebirth of International Street to greet Kings Island guests on opening weekend

New Orleans has its Bourbon Street. New York is famous for Park Avenue. Chicago has its Michigan Avenue. Kings Island has International Street. When conceiving the idea for Kings Island, park designers wanted to create an escape from reality, a bubble from real world responsibilities. At the heart of it would be the creation of a dramatic entry way and for guests to become overcome by the immense beauty and tranquility as they passed through the gates.
