The only thing better than being a kid is perhaps being a kid, again.

A Kid Again, a nonprofit organization which exists to foster hope, happiness and healing for families raising kids with life-threatening illnesses through fun-filled group activities and events, had its 24th annual outing Wednesday at Kings Island.

The Kings Island adventure is an incredible day of fun and laughter for A Kid Again families, allowing them to give illness a giant timeout. It’s an opportunity for sick kids to get out of the hospital, grab their brothers and sisters, their moms and dads, and come to Kings Island for the greatest day of the year – the day they can be a kid again.

One of the most important things about A Kid Again is they do these adventures for the entire family. It’s about the sick child who spends a lot of time in the hospital, the siblings who feel left out of the family because the parents are focused and concerned about the ill child, and it’s about the parents who are able to find connections with other parents who understand what they’re going through. Adventures like the one at Kings Island gives them an opportunity to be with and talk to other families, get advice and know that they’re not alone.

More than 4,000 A Kid Again children and family members from Cincinnati, Columbus, Dayton and Indiana attended the outing, making it the organization’s largest event of the year.

In addition to free admission, A Kid Again families enjoyed rides, a picnic, ice cream treats, $10 in Beagle Bucks to spend in the park and meeting some of their favorite PEANUTS characters.

More information on A Kid Again can be found on its website.

The Astro-Comet: Remembering King Cobra

In 1984, Kings Island was standing room only as King Cobra made its way into the spotlight of the Adventure Village area of the park. Designed by TOGO, it was the first roller coaster in the world to be designed from the ground up as a stand-up. Other stand-up roller coasters that preceded King Cobra were sit-down models later modified to accommodate stand-up trains, so this made it truly the world’s first.
