Monolophosaurus, with its single head crest, is in many ways similar in appearance to the North American Dilophosaurus.

The crest was hollow with canals that led to the nasal passage indicating that Monolophosaurus had the ability to produce sound through the crest and sing or call to a potential mate. Slightly larger than Dilophosaurus, Monolophosaurus was also a bipedal meat eater living near rivers and lakes in late Jurassic Asia.
