This date in 2014: Banshee roller coaster debuts at Kings Island
April 18, 2020One of the most anticipated opening days in Kings Island’s history took place on April 18, 2014, when the world’s longest steel inverted roller coaster, Banshee, made its debut.
Kings Island hadn’t attracted this much attention leading up to the start of the season for a new ride since 1979 when The Beast – still the world’s longest wooden roller coaster at 7,359 feet – opened. Hundreds of roller coaster enthusiasts throughout the United States, Canada and Europe made plans to travel to Southwest Ohio and visit Kings Island specifically to experience the record-breaking ride.
Banshee didn’t disappoint. It lived up to the pre-launch hype by delivering thrills from up, down and seven times around.
More than 9.5 million rides have been taken on Banshee since its opening, including over 2 million during its first season in 2014.
