This year marks the 45th anniversary of Shake, Rattle & Roll opening at Kings Island in the park's Coney Mall sector.
While Shake, Rattle & Roll may not be the biggest, fastest or most thrilling ride at Kings Island, it has been a favorite with guests of all ages since giving its first rides in 1975.
Imported from Switzerland, Shake, Rattle & Roll combines every movement used in thrill rides into one. The attraction looks like a combination Scrambler and Monster ride with the cars moving up and down, in and out, and round and round in a spinning, twisting motion. The cars are hung from long octopus-like tentacles, much like the park’s Monster ride.
Shake, Rattle & Roll was originally called Troika (Russian for “group of three”) to reflect the three sections of the ride. The ride’s current name comes from the song written by Jesse Stone that Big Joe Turner and Elvis Presley both performed at one time.
Shake, Rattle & Roll has given 24,866,591 rides since 1975, the 14th-most among active rides at Kings Island. Its record year was its second season in 1976 when 970,818 rides were given.
