You might have heard of old Coney Island amusement park that was on the edge of the Ohio River. In the 1950’s and 1960’s, it had an acknowledged reputation as America’s finest amusement park. However, every spring, the river would rise very high and flood Coney. That meant every spring the park would have to be repaired, and the repairing was quite expensive.
In 1969, Taft Broadcasting bought Coney Island and 1600 acres of land 21 miles north of Cincinnati in Warren County with plans to transport a number of Coney's rides to that location. That, in a nutshell, is how Kings Island was started.
