A Walk in the Park at Kings Island: First Trip

On Saturday, I got to go into Kings Island for the first time as a guest with my fiancé, Eric and it made me remember how much I love amusement parks. How did we start our day? A dance with The Beast of course. Going through Rivertown with the smell of funnel cakes in the air is such an amazing smell, if it was a candle, I would stock pile them. Hey Kings Island, when is the candle collection coming? I’m thinking a nice musky pine scent for The Beast so even when you’re at home, it almost like you’re riding one of your favorite coasters.

Now back to The Beast, I got to ride it for the first time EVER. My fiancé and I got seats in the back, and away we went. That first drop was the best though, we were already at the double helix by the time I fully comprehended what an amazing drop it was into that first tunnel. Of course, afterward we took some pictures. These were accurately our faces going down the first drop.

Next on our list was Diamondback, and it did not disappoint. Once again that first drop had me clinging to the safety bar like my life depended on it. It definitely had some negative G’s which is that feeling of weightlessness when you’re coming out of your seat, it is one of the best feelings when on a roller coaster.

We met up with some of my extended family for lunch at the Miami River Brewhouse, and memories were certainly made. The food was amazing, those pork sliders are on my list of things I need to try next. I split the BBLT and tater tots with Eric (Remember the portions are perfect for sharing!) and I would need something light for the coaster we were riding next.

In my first WITP blog, I mentioned that Vortex captured my attention and I tried to find out everything I could about it, so I wouldn’t be nervous about riding it. While I wasn’t nervous standing in line and pulling down the safety bar, I wasn’t feeling great after we got off. Put it this way, I may have beat The Beast but I was vanquished by Vortex.

Since Eric had picked Vortex, it was my turn to pick the next ride. Off to Planet Snoopy we went, but first a stop to the Eiffel Tower. The view was amazing, even with the rain. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to ride Banshee this time around but Eric did and I’m ready to conquer it on my next visit.

I can understand how Planet Snoopy has been voted “Best Kids’ Area in the World” by Amusement Today for 18 consecutive years. Between the blue ice cream, awesome throwback music (Hannah Montana AND Jonas Brothers) and the rides, it’s every kid’s dream. With it being my turn to pick the ride, we got in line for Woodstock Whirlybirds, half to escape the rain that had started but mostly because I really wanted to ride it. Just when I thought Planet Snoopy couldn’t get better, Eric reminded me that I hadn’t had blue ice cream yet. We immediately fixed that and checked it off our list of things to do.

The rain was really coming down hard now, so we did the most sensible thing ever, bought some ponchos and got in line for The Racer. In the blue train, we rolled out of the station and right about that time, I wished we had invested in some goggles. I had my eyes closed for most of the ride because of the rain, so it’ll be top of the list for the next time we visit.

Even though I was in the park as a guest, I was still greeting people and asking them how they liked Antique Autos and whether they had tried Miami River Brewhouse. I guess that’s what happens when you work at an amusement park. The two different times that I have ridden Antique Autos, it’s been raining, granted the season has just started and summer cruising will soon be upon us. Our last ride of the day was the KI & Miami Valley Railroad. It was a great way to get out of the rain and unwind after a day of eating and riding roller coasters.

So what’s next? I know a missed a few things on my first trip to Kings Island as a guest, such as riding all the roller coasters and trying different food items. Sound off down in the comments and let me know some things that I need to try on my next visit to the park! With that, here’s a picture of Eric and I in our snazzy ponchos, and I will see you all next week!
