Morning view from the K.I. & Miami Valley Railroad at Kings Island
July 5, 2019This week’s “Morning View” shot was snapped behind the scenes of the K.I. & Miami Valley Railroad where the Blue No. 12 and Green No. 19 engines are being prepared for service.
The K.I. & Miami Valley Railroad has been a favorite with guests since Kings Island opened in 1972. Located in the Rivertown area of the park, the trains are patterned after the famous Civil War-era steam train, “The General”.
Instead of being coal fired, Kings Island’s engines are propane gas fired. The 400-gallon boilers on each engine provide plenty of capacity to make them real authentic steam-spitting locomotives.
For some of our guests, Kings Island's trains offer a relaxing respite after a day of stomach-churning roller coasters. For others, it's a shuttle to and from Rivertown to Soak City Water Park.
The K.I. & Miami Raliroad has given more than 56 million rides during its years of service at Kings Island, second-most in park history behind The Racer (105 million).
