Kings Island awards scholarships to 2019 seasonal associates

Not only is it fun and exciting to work at a world-class amusement park, Kings Island is going a step further and offers its hard-working associates the opportunity to apply for a scholarship during the season they are working. This year Kings Island awarded over 20 scholarships to its associates. July 30 was the official ceremony honoring these associates and all of their hard work, not just at Kings Island but in the classroom as well.

I got a chance to catch up with three of the recipients, Ashley Astin, Baylee Rose and Jerod Weber, and ask them what it means to them to win these scholarships.

Ashley is in her 17th season at Kings Island and started her journey in the rides department. Currently she is in charge of Food & Beverage’s training department. Ashley is working towards her Doctorate in educational leadership with a concentration in curriculum and instruction at the American College of Education. When asked what it meant to win a scholarship, Ashley said, “It means a lot, everyone is so deserving that won a scholarship, but it really puts into perspective how great of a place Kings Island is that it gives back to its employees.”

Baylee is in her seventh season at Kings Island and works in the Entertainment department. She also created the choreography of our most recent event, Grand Carnivale. She is attending the University of Cincinnati and is majoring in criminal justice and minoring in psychology. Baylee is the 2019 recipient of the Kings Island Award. This award is given to an associate who has shown dedication and is committed to making Kings Island a better place. “I am just blown away. I’m beyond grateful, it will help my college career and me financially so much. I’m so blessed and so thankful,” Baylee said about winning the Kings Island Award for 2019.

“It means so much to me and my future education and how I’m going to be able to impact the lives of my students in the future," said Jerod, who is in his seventh season at Kings Island as a revenue auditor and who was awarded the Don Miller Award for 2019. He is entering his final semester of college at Northern Kentucky University where he is majoring in secondary education with a focus on mathematics. "This scholarship is helping me to give that opportunity to those students to really succeed in mathematics and succeed in life.”
