When I travel out of town to attend PR and social media conferences and summits and tell people I work at Kings Island, I’m asked about one of three things: The Beast, the episode The Brady Bunch filmed at the park and blue ice cream.
A blueberry soft serve, blue ice cream was introduced by Kings Island in 1982 and became an immediate hit. Like many of Kings Island’s iconic attractions, blue ice cream has gone on to become multi-generational. Parents who ate it as a child are now sharing it with their children; grandparents who had it with their kids now enjoy it with their grandkids.
Because blue ice cream has become a staple in Kings Island history and entrenched as a part of Cincinnati culture, July 1 has been designated as National Blue Ice Cream Day.
For those visiting Kings Island today, celebrate this tradition by snapping a photo with your blue ice cream and sharing it on Twitter using the hashtag #NationalBlueIceCreamDay.
