A Walk in the Park at Kings Island: Halloween in July

Natalie Belfiglio

Social Media Coordinator - Kings Island

“Welcome back to Kings Island, my name is Natalie and I will be your tour guide for this week’s walk in the park. To your left, you can see this great candle collection with scents ranging from “The Beast” to “Cotton Candy on International Street” and be on the lookout for the limited edition Great Pumpkin Fest scent, “Fall at Kings Island” a pumpkin pie scented candle with hints of caramel.”

Okay, enough jokes about the non-existent candle collection. How is everyone doing this week? Did you get to experience Island Nights last Friday? If not I suggest you come out. Apart from the extended slide time and awesome music, they have life-changing churros. If I wasn’t at work, I’d be there eating churros and playing beach volleyball.

Aside from my birthday and Christmas, Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. Almost every year I think of awesome couple’s costumes for (my fiancee) Eric and I and every year he reminds me, “There’s no point in getting costumes, we don’t go out on Halloween anymore.” Which if I’m being honest is true but still, it’s Halloween! Last year I got to dress up as one of the Sanderson sisters from Hocus Pocus with some friends from work. Best costumes ever. Speaking of Halloween, have you been keeping up with the Halloween Haunt board on our Pinterest page? New things are being added every week. Okay, enough about Halloween, it’s still July.

It’s a little scary to think it’s almost August, I feel like summer just started. June flew by, but it feels like July is dragging. I’ll be the first to admit this humidity is ruining not only my hair, but my desire to be anywhere that doesn’t have a pool, air conditioning is definitely my friend in these troubling, hair frizzing times.

I just stumbled upon another ride I probably won’t be getting on and it has an anniversary this year. Drop Tower turns 20 this year! I don’t know what it is with some of these tall rides, I guess I just can’t do heights anymore, I can do lift hills, but not straight up in the air and back down. Oh and on closer inspection, it looks like it’s a rotating drop tower. Excellent. Well happy 20th anniversary to Drop Tower! While we’re on the subject, I’ll leave you all with this question and see if you get it right. Which roller coaster do you think was built the year I was born? Leave your guesses in the comments (If anybody says Racer, heads will roll) and if anybody gets it right, I’ll talk about it next week!

That’s all for now and I’ll see y’all on the next one!

The Astro-Comet: Remembering King Cobra

In 1984, Kings Island was standing room only as King Cobra made its way into the spotlight of the Adventure Village area of the park. Designed by TOGO, it was the first roller coaster in the world to be designed from the ground up as a stand-up. Other stand-up roller coasters that preceded King Cobra were sit-down models later modified to accommodate stand-up trains, so this made it truly the world’s first.
