A Walk In The Park at Kings Island: Coaster Adventures

Natalie Belfiglio

Social Media Coordinator - Kings Island

Hey, hi, hello everyone! Who else is loving this weather? Also there’s just something about a nice hot cup of coffee when I get to my desk that energizes me. What’s on the agenda for this week? Let’s recap some things. I went into the park last Thursday with one of my co-workers, Mallory, and I got to experience Flight of Fear, Adventure Express and Boo Blasters. Once again, I got peer pressured into riding in the front seat for Flight of Fear, which wasn’t as bad as it could’ve been. I definitely like the fact that it’s in the dark. It’s hard to have anxiety over something coming that you can’t even see. Hmm wouldn’t that cause you more anxiety though? Anyway after a quick stop at Auntie Anne’s we were ready for Adventure Express. Now the website claims that this coaster is a high thrill level ride. It was one of the chillest roller coasters I’ve ever been on, in the best way. It has its moments, but I would say that this is a great “cool down” coaster. I’d love to see more theming around the ride. Then it was off to Boo Blasters, and that blog will be up soon, so stay tuned!

Now onto this week. I have three more Walk in the Park segments until the series wraps up for the season. I’m not sure how I’m feeling about it at the moment. With that in mind, I am in the middle of stockpiling blogs for Haunt and a few other things. Don’t worry, I’m not going to get sappy on this week’s blog. That will come later. On to happier subjects.

The smell of geraniums always hits me when I’m walking through Coney Mall, so does the smell of Coney Bar-B-Que. So this week, we’ll have two candle scents, a geranium scented one and we’ll call that one, “Strolling through Coney”  Our second scent, “Coney Bar B Que” should smell like the best barbeque cook out you’ve ever been to. Maybe next week’s scent will be themed after my favorite roller coaster in the park.

Anyway I’ve been spending a lot of time over in X-Base, like the rest of Kings Island fans to see what these ride posters are about. No idea what I’m talking about? Click here. I was going over every day to see what was next. Now it’s time to wait. ALSO somebody did guess which roller coaster was built the year I was born. Yeah, it was my future brother-in-law and he already knew how old I was, but I’m saying it counts. The answer? “The Bat”! Not the 1981-83 Bat, but what was originally “Top Gun” that was built in 1993 and in 2008 its name changed to “Flight Deck”. Then it got another name change in 2014 to its current name to pay homage to the original “The Bat” I also have a quirky item to share for this week. I wish I had found these when I was doing my “Quirky Finds at Kings Island” blog but I totally missed them. So at Emporium they sell golf ball sets with roller coaster logos on them. To me personally, this is something cool that I would buy. Random fact about me is that I was on the golf team in high school. While my driving is subpar, my short game is still pretty good if I do say so myself. However for the average person, golf balls being sold as a souvenir at an amusement park is definitely different, but would certainly make a good gift for the golfers in your life.

I also had a great opportunity to attend the Kings Island Scholarship Dinner on Tuesday. In case you didn’t know, if you are an employee at Kings Island and are in school, you can apply for a scholarship during the season that you are working. The people I work with already amaze me, but hearing that they’re working towards degrees in medicine and criminal justice and working towards their Doctorate degrees is truly amazing. Me personally, I remember when I was walking across the stage to receive my diploma at my college graduation and I had every intention of going back and getting my master’s degree. Then I went home and took a nap. In case you don’t know, taking a nap and realizing when you wake up you don’t have to worry about group projects or writing papers or passing a hard class is one of the best feelings ever. After that nap I realized I didn’t actually want a master’s degree, I wanted a real summer break for a little longer. For anyone who needs to hear this, it is okay if you don’t graduate on time. I certainly didn’t graduate on time, but I really believe that I needed that extra time to figure out a lot of things. This doesn’t just apply to college, it applies to all aspects of life. Everybody has their own pace, find yours and go with it.

That’s it for this week, get ready for that next candle scent, it would be a best seller. See y’all on the next one!
