A walk in the  park at Kings Island: Week of tours and discovery

Natalie Belfiglio

Social Media Coordinator - Kings Island

I’m no stranger to theme parks but in the case of Kings Island, I am a total newcomer. Confession: The first time I’d ever been to Kings Island was my interview for the Social Media Coordinator position.

I’ve decided that this blog, A Walk in the Park at Kings Island will be one of my contributions to the park as a recurring weekly segment filled with pictures that I take of some of my favorite findings and my thoughts.

Believe it or not, the Vortex was the roller coaster that immediately attracted my attention. The attraction was one of fear and as with most other things that I fear (sharks) I had to find out everything that I could about the Vortex. I have found that the more you know about something, the less likely you are to be afraid of it. Two weeks into working here at the park and I now have a healthy respect for the Vortex, as I do with sharks. However you won’t be seeing me on it anytime soon.

This might be one of my favorite shots that I’ve taken so far. I’ve never been a big fan of shooting into the sun or around it, but for this shot, it was perfect. Obviously I have yet to ride on Wind Seeker but just from the picture I can feel the sensation of being high above the park and the wind in my face, almost as if I’m flying. That being said, it is definitely on my list of rides when Opening Day comes around.

On my third day in the park, I got the chance to see this gem. Since I never had a chance to see this coaster in action, I can really appreciate that they did pay homage to it when they were creating the entry for Banshee. Although I do wonder how The Beast feels about having a son, I’m sure it would be pleased to know that its kin has a nice headstone and hasn’t been forgotten.  That wraps it up on my thoughts and findings for the week as I walked through the park.

Since I am a newcomer, I’d love to hear from you! Sound off down in the comments and give your thoughts on which rides I should ride first, what food to try (Bacon-On-A-Stick anyone?) and whether I should face my fears and ride the Vortex (I’m not saying I’ll ride it but I will take your advice into consideration).

See you all next week!

The Astro-Comet: Remembering King Cobra

In 1984, Kings Island was standing room only as King Cobra made its way into the spotlight of the Adventure Village area of the park. Designed by TOGO, it was the first roller coaster in the world to be designed from the ground up as a stand-up. Other stand-up roller coasters that preceded King Cobra were sit-down models later modified to accommodate stand-up trains, so this made it truly the world’s first.
