Nothing says summer fun like a day at Kings Island. From thrill rides like The Beast, Banshee and Diamondback to family attractions like the Grand Carousel and K.I. & Miami Valley Railroad, plus the games, character meet and greets and Soak City Water Park, there are many fun things to do at the park for the whole family.
But have you ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes at Kings Island to keep you safe? If so, meet Doug Kramer. As Kings Island’s director of safety and security, he oversees all aspects of the extensive safety and security measures utilized throughout the park, including ride operations. No two days look the same for Doug and the safety, security and operations teams.
Doug began his career at Kings Island in 1978 the same way many teens do, as a summer job with some of his friends. He began in ride operations as a member of the Les Taxis (Antique Cars) crew. One summer turned into two, followed by a series of promotions over the next few seasons through the ranks of the operations department before transitioning to the safety department, where he has been for now parts of three decades.
Now in his 41st season, Doug took time to share his Kings Island story with the K.I. Blog.
