Learn to draw PEANUTS characters with PEANUTS Sketch School

Whether you’re a budding artist who loves to doodle or a bit of a butterfingers who prefers stick figures, PEANUTS Celebration at Kings Island will turn you into a mini Charles Schulz as you learn to draw his characters in a few easy steps.

Being a bit of a butterfingers myself, before my first Sketch School session I did not expect to come out with much more than a blotted mess. However, I was shocked at how easy it was to sketch the characters! I even went to a few extra sessions to learn more characters.

Once you step into the “studio,” located in the Enchanted Theater next to The Great Pumpkin Coaster, a resident art teacher takes you step-by-step through drawing some classic PEANUTS characters while you follow along with your own pencil and paper. PEANUTS characters are actually based on simple shapes and letters, so anyone from little ones to adults can draw their own character to take home. Plus, I loved learning secret tricks of the art world that let me feel like a real artist.

The teacher was great at interacting with the younger artists and letting them add their own artistic vision to the drawing. As my character started coming to life, it looked like a real PEANUTS cartoon with my own personal style. As they say in Sketch School, everyone has their own unique artistic style. You just might discover yours while creating your character!

Aside from sketching, one of my favorite parts about Sketch School is learning the history behind the PEANUTS characters. As the class sketches, an official PEANUTS historian explains what originally went into making the characters and the real people who inspired them. Did you know that Charlie Brown’s face is based on Charles Schulz himself, and that Schulz actually had a crush on a red-haired girl?

Sketch School is a fun way to take a break from rides and learn about iconic characters, and it’s perfect for almost any age. It’s amazing to think that a few circles and letters creates everyone in Planet Snoopy!

The fun doesn’t end at Sketch School. There’s so much to do at PEANUTS Celebration! See live shows, enjoy themed food and snap a photo with your favorite PEANUTS characters. Join the conversation using the hashtag #KIPeanutsCelebration.
