This Day in Kings Island History: Construction of The Beast roller coaster began

On this day 40 years ago (July 10, 1978), ABC-TV premiered “World News Tonight” with anchors Frank Reynolds, Peter Jennings and Max Robinson, “Shadow Dancing” by Andy Gibb topped the billboard charts, and in Southwest Ohio, something happened that would change the world forever. Well, at least the roller coaster world. Officials at Kings Island announced the park had begun construction on a major new attraction that would open as America’s champion roller coaster in the spring of 1979.

National Blue Ice Cream Day a sweet tooth's paradise

National Blue Ice Cream Day at Kings Island featured blue ice cream themed foods galore, from fudge to cotton candy to funnel cakes to blueberry BBQ sauce for chicken wings. Plus, guests had awesome photo opportunities in front of the blue ice cream billboards, perfect for an Instagram or Facebook photo to show off their love of the classic concoction. Contestants in the blue ice cream eating contest polished off two pounds of blue ice cream for a chance to win a prize package that included two ride passes.

I visited Build-A-Bear all the time as a kid, and visiting Kings Island’s Build-A-Bear Workshop definitely made me want to make a furry friend again. The Build-A-Bear Workshop is just inside Kings Island’s main gates next to LaRosa’s, and it’s filled with all kinds of exclusive friends and accessories. There’s so many dolls to choose from, and I couldn’t believe how much was only available at Kings Island, like Care Bears and Dory.
