Here's a look at the Beast roller coaster under construction in the fall of 1978. When construction of the Beast was completed in March 1979, workmen had used 650,000 board feet of southern pine lumber, 37,500 pounds of nails, 82,480 bolts, 5,180 washers and 2,432 square feet of concrete. The ride was constructed in less than a year, after two years of research and design.

Worth noting in this photo is the degree of the banking of the track coming out of the tunnel after the first drop.  After the ride's opening weekend April 14-15, 1979, the banking was raised on the right-hand side (left side in the photo), almost even-up with the railing.  The work was completed and the ride was ready to operate by the time the park opened the following weekend.

It's amazing how quick they fixed the banking. A great coaster favorite for my family!
